- Is there any requirement to enroll into the course?
Yes. You must be 16 years or over (not enrolled as a secondary student) and also must be a New Zealand Resident.
- Any documentation required?
Yes, we do required some evidence of identity including age, citizenship/residency. Acceptable documentation includes:
- NZ Birth Certificate or
- NZ Passport or
- Australian Passport or
- A Birth Certificate with place of birth state as Australia, the Cook Islands, Niue or Tokelau or
- Certificate of citizenship or passport with permanent residence stamp or
- Statement of Whakapapa (only acceptable for NZ Maori students over 60 years old, and to be signed by a Kaumatua)
Please make sure you provide the correct documentation with the name you want to appear on your certificate to graduate.
If applicable, you may have to supply documentation to show your name has changed (e.g. a NZ Marriage Certificate). This must accompany a birth certificate, passport and/or statutory declaration if the name that you wish to enroll under is different from the name on your documentation.
- Can I enroll if I am a client or receiving income support from Work and Income?

- Is there any pre-requisite for this course?
No, there is no pre-requisite for CSBM. But we might ask you to complete one or two exercise during the interview process.
- What do I get out of completing this course?
A comprehensive business plan for your business or business idea. Also the confidence and knowledge to set up and operate your own business.

- Is there any fee or hidden charge to this course?
NO. CSBM is absolutely free; however, it still cost you the time and effort you put into completing it. So we like to call it “Zero Fee Course”. All resources and materials are provided free of charge.
- Can I apply for Student Loan and Student Allowance?
Student Loans do NOT apply to CSBM. Tauira/students may apply for Student Allowances through StudyLink. For more information please go to www.studylink.govt.nz.
- What is mixed mode delivery?
Mixed mode delivery is delivered in a mixture of At-Home learning and Contact learning.
- What is At-Home Learning?
The majority of this programme is delivered through Lesson Plan Workbooks that tauira/students complete at home (directed learning outside of a class room). Tauira/students need to complete 3 one-hour lessons per week.
- What is Contact Learning?
- Is there any exams or tests at the end of the course?
- Can I summit my assessment in Te Reo Maori?
- Do I get any further support outside the workshops?
- If I want to do some additional reading, are there any facilities where I can get that?
- How long does it take to complete this course?

Contact Learning means that tauira/students get in contact with tutor either via workshops or 1-on-1 appointment. Tauira/students must meet with their tutor at least twice per module, that is a total of 12 times throughout the programme. For each module, there are a total of 4 available workshops: 1 Compulsory Workshop (where the tutor can summarise the concept on that topic) and 3 Optional Workshops (where tauira/students can ask for tutor’s help regarding assessments, topic or resources).
No, there are no exams or tests for CSBM. However, tauira/students are required to complete 13 assessments in order to graduate from this course.
Yes, tauira/students have the option of submitting assessments in Te Reo Maori. All you have to do is inform the tutor by the start date of the Module to which the assessment relates.
Yes your tutor will provide support relating to the content of the programme. Some additional tauira/student support may be available through the Student Support Services team at the Regional Campus during working hours. Covering the areas of study skills, disability support, library service, etc.
Yes, TWOA provides FREE library services. Free library resources are available at some TWOA campuses; otherwise, there is the library online catalogue where you can order the books that you required and get it courier down to your mail box. You have 1 week to read it and return it with the provided self-addressed courier bag. Absolutely no charge. Easy and efficient.
It is scheduled as a 36 weeks course. However, under some circumstance extensions are allowed upon request to tutor.
Unfortunately, tauira/students won’t receive any NZQA credits upon completing CSBM. Because CSBM is not set out as a Unit Standard base course, it’s marked either “Achieved” or “Yet to Achieve”. However, the quality of the materials of CSBM is approved by NZQA.
Yes, all tauira/students who Achieve the CSBM will receive a Certificate. Graduation ceremony usually held in April, but may vary for different Regions.
